The applications for Rona Scholarship are currently accepted. To be eligible, the candidates should be pursuing education in the field of fisheries, aquaculture or marine sciences degree. The successful applicants will receive approximately $10,000. To apply, the application form and other supporting documents must be submitted no later than 7 April 2017.
Launched in 2012, the Rona Scholarship is designed to help address Te Putea Whakatupu Trust’s strategic focus on lifting the level of Māori participation in middle and senior management in the fisheries and aquaculture industries. Te Putea Whakatupu Trust is launching this new scholarship as part of an exciting partnership with the Māori Education Trust. The partnership will see Māori Education Trust manage this and other scholarships on its behalf.
Value and Duration
Up to ten $10,000 scholarships will be awarded to the scholarship winners. The duration of the award is one year.
Level and Area of Studies
Undergraduate and graduate degree majoring in fisheries, aquaculture or marine sciences.
Place of Study
The study will be taken in New Zealand.
Eligibility and Criteria
Preference will be given to those students who: are in their last year or second to last year of study towards their degree; have proven academic merit; have proven research experience; demonstrate a commitment to tikanga Māori and te reo Māori; demonstrate a commitment to working in the seafood industry; and are interested in building personal skills and expertise to support Māori economic and social development.
